For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

why work is the best thing about this summer [Jul. 21st, 2008|10:42 pm]

i was at work doing a room with two of our clients who came came in with their cat who ended up having a cancerous tumor that needed to be removed immediately - i was explaining the estimate to them, and the man in the room breaks in to tell me that he's a 'shack up grandpa' and lives with the woman in the room, who's apparently a grandma, and his girlfriend. he told me that I needed to explain the costs and procedure to HER because she made all the decisions.

"She's in charge, see," he said, "and I don't care that she wears the pants in the relationship, I just wish she'd let me in them more often"

so my boyfriend is graduating this year and is thinking about applying for an internship with the Chicago Fire, the soccer team, because he has contacts high up in the chain and wants to do something relating to soccer and this job combines philanthropy AND soccer -but Chicago is far away from NC (and windy) and I wasn't as excited as I knew I should be since its his future and even if I love him I ought to not make him feel bad at ALL about supporting his dreams. So I've been praying about feeling better, and knowing that if it's meant to be, it won't matter if he's far away, we'll stay together, and today I got an email from Skybus, the really really cheap airline that just finally started flying from Greensboro to Ft.Lauderdale, and just last week started having two flights a day instead of one - and their newest addition? $10-$35 non stop flights from a city about an outside Chicago to Greensboro, 20 minutes away from Wake Forest.

There's something crazy about directly answered prayers.

But God remembered Noah, and the waters receded [Jun. 18th, 2006|07:57 pm]
[i ran down to the beach and sat in the rain,
and the moon was hinting through the clouds and
it shone on the water and made a path on the water,
like one made of eggshells, fragile and white,
and it was beautiful. It was pouring and i was laughing
and you could smell the rain in the air, and it was soft rain,
like the kind you can turn your face up to, and it feels
good against your skin, and I just stood there for awhile
letting the water run down my face, not thinking about anything
and listening to the water on the sand, and when i went back inside,
i felt clean, and fresh and could still smell the powdery smell in my hair
and on my skin and i felt pretty, and happy.
]

i love rain
and today was unbelievable - were were at the beach for fathers day
and i had just gotten off work and flew to the pier with my mom
and as we're all sitting there the sky is getting darker and darker over the water
and all of a sudden a funnel cloud formed and snaked its way slowly towards the water
and then it touched, barely, but enough and you could see the water spout and spray around it
and it came close, so close we had to leave but right before it touched the beach
you could look up and a whole section of the sky was turning
it was mesmerizing - inexorable and so dangerous but the power of it was beautiful
i stood for much longer than my parents would've liked taking pictures
and feeling the wind whip at my hair but the rain was soft though it fell hard
and I wasnt afraid so much as I was thankful and alive

8:30am? [May. 5th, 2006|09:52 pm]
[music |Incubus and Dave Chapelle]

And it's just my luck
to end up getting stuck
To everything you are
So tonight I'll sit
and pick apart your pictures
And overanalyze your words
But the truth is that
I've never fallen so hard
It's taking everything in me
Just to forget your sweater so far

does anyone ever wonder about timing?
I didn't sleep all night
my moms coming in 3 hours to help me pack
and i think i just got a glimpse of something
I didn't think I was looking for
and never knew i wanted
until just now...
and now its summer.

"Wait, is the meat going to spoil if we leave it in the car?"
"Um no Hallie, its already cooked."

"I'll have a tall decaf White Chocolate Moca"
"You're getting decaf?!"
"-and an expresso brownie."

"No, look, you turn them inside out and then they pop." (me)
"...Gimme." (Jon)

"Mine."

"They're not burned, that's taco seasoning"

"Jon! Keep your hands to yourself. Or keep them busy with Hallie."
"Okay. I don't think I'll have any problems with that."

"So there's this old drunk black guy on the elevator..."
"yesssss" (Hallie laughing)

"I bet you they're having a prayer group right now."

"So wait, what do you put if you're from South Africa, if not African American?"
"Richter."

"I hate Mr. Sniffles."

"You look so much better with your top down."
(Jon you are possibly a long lost brother.)

oh no honey, its just sleeping )

My favorite picture of the night. Why? Because Cary would be shocked and appalled.

"She can bellow."
-Hallie, on Kelly Clarkson

"Did she just say bellow?"
-My mom, on Hallie

"I would do it standing up."
-John, on CPR

"Well, shes vuluptuous."
-My mom, on Brielle from ELC

"I found this in the chips."
-The Waitress, on well, never mind

I never beat 70 on the basketball game but I did tie Taylor one time and beat my dad twice. Out of NOWHERE I got 75 tickets on this absurd game that made Hallie dizzy and was giving me a seizure and we bought prizes, and ate cake and had a race over whose boy would call back first.

[mood | bouncy]

HAHA first day of camp - OVER. And I definately survived, and better than that, I had fun. I've got 6-8th grade girls, including some that will go to 9th next year and well, they're old enough to do almost everything on their own, but still young enough that they listen. Mostly.
We're basically not even allowed to play with them in the sporting games so me, Hilary and Jennilee basically just stand and watch and referee. In some cases, such as when we were standing in the sweltering heat watching them attempt to play soccer, [as the "instructor" ran with them yelling in his spanish accent 'keek it, keek the bull.'] I was quite glad of this, but I'm really not a spectator type person and I was dying to play basketball and try my hand at everything they were doing. I think it's mostly for liability's sake, because apparently, a few kids arms and legs have been broken and there have been some balls in the face. But I mean, what harm could I possibly do to girls whom, for the most part, are taller than me?? I just don't know, and it's kinda frustrating. But then again, it also means I'm being paid to like watch a group of 13 girls with two other people, just to make sure no one lights anything on fire, gets lost, breaks anything, or drowns. And there are lifeguards who do that part. Man.
But yeah, we have magic 2x a week as an elective which is amazing, even if parts of it are kinda absurd, whatever, its 35 minutes of being entertained by party tricks. We have a fruit break in the morning, which makes Amanda (Bennet) and I quite happy, and a popsicle break in the afternoon. I love popsicles. We go to the pool twice a day, and I have a feeling that even though I didnt swim today, if it keeps on being as hot as it is now, I'll be in it every day. And besides, if I'm gonna get a sexy one piece tan, I might as well have fun doing it. The two 'cool breezes' in the froup, one going into highschool at NB and the other one going into 8th grade are all up on the 'we spent five hours straightening our hair, we-can't participate-in-sports-that-might-cause-us-to-move-or-sweat-off-any-of-our-heavily applied-eyeliner-or-go-in-the-pool,-we-can-only-lay-in-the-sun-and-show-off-our-very small-bathing-suits... yeah we taunted them until they went in. I was all for bodily throwing them in, (don't even try to pretend that I couldn't have) but there is also something in that whole, 'immediate dismissal contract' about touching the campers. Who comes up with these things???
Both Amandas, Bennet and Berger are in my transportation circle which is nice, because I have happy friendly faces to see in the mornings. [I definately got sunburned just doing that, which makes me sorta scared for my future skincancer, but also makes me happy because it reassures me that I will be extremely tan by the end of the week, never mind the summer.] Scott, who does my transportation circle also plays odd mixes of rock and like... 80's music that no one has ever heard, all around 8 in the morning. And he dances. But at least it's fun and opening doors and helping kids out isnt the most taxing activity I could be doing, although I couldn't open the door on this one BMW for the life of me (I swear it was locked) and the little girl's comment as she opened the door (from the inside) was "you have to pull on the handle." I throw up my hands.
All in all, it was a fun day. I ate cheerios all throughout the day, which will either keep my metabolism going continuously and make me lose weight or I will become obese, drank lots of water, and continuously switched my camper's names around. On the bright side, no one bled, no one broke anything, got lost or died. I'm all over this job.

Live Journals [Jun. 2nd, 2004|10:33 am]
So I don't know about this whole "hey look, my whole life is online for people to read and comment on!" thing, and I swore never to have one of these things EVER, and then Erica, Josh, and Frankie wore me down and made me one and I figured if it's gonna be known as my journal I might want to write in it occasionally so that Erica doesnt make inappropriate comments in it etc, but well...

I'd like to point out that if you hate me or want me to burn and die, please don't bother writing it in this journal, just come up to me and tell me or challenge me to mortal combat or something, because the whole everyone ranting and raving and being altogether insane in people's live journals is gay (YES- it has homosexual tendancies to other instances of insanity of the same gender) so just don't. And, hopefully, as I plan to only write generic things here anyway no one will flip out.

That whole disclaimer in no way will discourage me from blatently insulting multiple people at the same time. Just so you know.
